With the exception of today, we have had an absolutely beautiful week in Milwaukee. It was a reminder of all the good things to come and why winter is worth it when summer finally comes to stay for a while.

Spring has sprung in Milwaukee

As we move toward warmer and more beautiful days, I thought I’d cover a few things I’m most excited about this summer, in no particular order…

> Europe Trip Planning (& Shopping) - We’re currently working on booking flights and figuring out our itinerary for a September Europe Trip. It will be my hubbub’s first time to Europe and my first time to Poland. We’ll also stay in Amsterdam for a few days which is one of my favorite cities in Europe. Needless to say, I’m really looking forward to it, but more on this later!

> Get Back in Shape – I’ve been a bump on a log this winter. Getting back to yoga, running and more bike rides should help me look somewhat acceptable in a bathing suit.

> Bikes! – Since I made my job switch I’m now working downtown again which is an easy bike ride from our condo, but of course, weekend rides will also be a plenty.

> Farmers Markets – Since my green thumb is more brown these days, I tend to go to the farmers markets to get fresh food vs. growing it myself. We’ve got some pretty great markets around town, my favorite being the West Allis Farmers Market.

> Canning – I get my produce at the farmers markets and then love spending a sunday afternoon cooking and canning. I’ve randomly been on a cocktail onion kick in my Old Fashioneds so this Summer they will be on the list along with a few different jams, sauerkraut, tomato sauce and perhaps a few more, depending on the crops!

> Antique Markets – I have barely set foot in an antique store all winter. After my almost weekly trips last year for wedding loot I haven’t had much to look for but now I have a few ideas up my sleeve. Back to the markets I go!

> Weekends Away - I’m most looking forward to a long 4th of July weekend with my family at our cabin in Northern Michigan, but we also have a few other little weekends in the works as well.

> Exposed Toes! - SandalsWedgesFlats. I’m SO sick of socks. Of course, this means I need a pedicure immediately.

Mom & Colleen at McWiz Wedding

I absolutely love the poem, Bby Sarah Kay which she performed at the beginning of her TED Talk in 2011. I gave the poem to my Mom as part of a thank you gift for all of her hard work with wedding planning and I still get teary when I read or watch the poem.

For my mom and all the amazing mom’s out there:

The Great Gatsby Movie 2013 | Carrie Mulligan & Leonardo DiCaprio

Given my love of all things vintage, books and movies, it should come as no surprise that I’m thrilled that the Baz Luhrman movie adaptation of The Great Gatsby is finally opening this today.

I can’t help but be dazzled by Luhrman’s previous films and while many think it’s a big risk to take on this story, I’m probably most excited about the sets, costumes and music, though of course, I do have high hopes for the adaptation itself.
